The afternoon of Brenden's birthday (Saturday) he started to run a low grade fever. He had been drooling like nuts and had a runny (clear) nose, so we thought he was just cutting teeth. By Saturday night, he was running over 102 degree temp. We called the Doc, took a warm shower, and plied him w/ a Tylenol/Motrin cocktail. Sunday we did the shower/cocktail all day and talked to the doc again. Monday morning I took him into the Doc...his fever had broken and he was acting better. The nurse practitioner gave us an antibiotic and sent us along. By Monday night, the fever was up to 104 and he was vomiting and not drinking anything. We called the Doc first thing Tuesday as his temp was still 104 after a shower and he vomited 3 times...into the office we go. Only we weren't there long as our pediatrician walked us across the way to the hospital himself. Bren was a mess...the croup and RSV...an upper respitory infection that completely kicks ass. Needless to say, I was scared out of my mind. Doc gave Bren some Tylenol in his office in hopes he wouldn't vomit it up. Once we got to the hospital they started pumping him with fluids and drugs to combat the dehydration and the fever, the virus, and the nausea. Poor Bren...didn't really have much energy to cry. He was like a caged animal and he had more wires coming out of him then our entrainment center. It was horrible. But the Doc and the nurses at St. Mary's were great. They were great with Bren and tried to keep me sane. We were there three days. He got breathing treatments every hour and basically slept the first two days. The third day he started showing signs of life. We were exhausted and emotionally drained, but it was so great to see our little Bug smiling at me when I woke up that morning.
He's much better now (Monday). We have a doc appt tomorrow to check on his recovery. He's breathing really good now, only the occasional cough. So, hopefully, we are on the road to a completely healthy Bug.
